Early Sights and Sounds on Signing Day

To quote ESPN’s David Ubben, national signing day is the new slam-dunk contest: it’s all about topping the guy who came before you; in another slam-dunk similarity, props are also popular. See above, as Georgia commit Isaiah Crowell augments his decision by bringing — wait for it — a real, live bulldog puppy to the party. Crowell nails two birds with one stone: he ingratiates himself to the Georgia fan base, for starters, while also showing Georgia’s co-eds his soft, gentle, sensitive side. What about Auburn commit Gabe Wright? What prop did he use to highlight his decision?
The hat — “Nick Who?” — is not in reference to Nick Saban, as I had first believed, but to Nick Fairley, the dominating interior presence Wright emulates and hopes to replace. Which scenario has Wright biting off more than he can chew? At least calling out Fairley — though it was all in good fun — is just braggadocio, which we can live with; calling out Saban, on the other hand, would have been foolish.
