University of Alabama at Birmingham professor to be president of American Heart Association

“I think the election of an epidemiologist really fits well with their position on building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke,” Arnett said in a news release.
Arnett has been with the AHA since 1991 and is president of the group’s Greater Southeast Affiliate. She has set a push for prevention of cardiovascular disease — which the AHA says is the leading cause of death in the United States — as a major goal for her tenure there.
